With Joe Darrah I recently got back from spending a week at Joe Darrah's house, having been invited to spend Thanksgiving with him and his family. The first night I arrived, Joe picked me up at the airport and took me on a tour of Philadelphia. Because of the hour, there was almost no traffic, and the Christmas lights were all up already. What a perfect way to see the city for my first time! During the week, among other things, Joe also took me to see the Lancaster area (Amish Country), made some unbelievably awesome Native American jewelry, and we spent a day touring Valley Forge and got alot of great pictures there. Another part of the reason I went out there is I wanted to learn about knife making. Since I'm pretty new to knife throwing and haven't really had anything to practice with, Joe made me a set of throwing knives while I was there, showing & explaining exactly what he was doing every step of the way. On about the 2nd or 3rd knife, he started having me help him on various steps. After the entire set of knives was complete, Joe handed me a waterjet cut blank and told me that now I was going to make my first knife from start to finish by myself. I had alot of fun making it, and getting a little creative in shaping it down. I have a couple of pictures. One of me making the knife, and then of the finished product: If you haven't had a chance yet, you should check out the knives that Joe makes & sells. He was recently hired as the official knife supplier for the Wild West Arts Club & for Western Stage Props. He is also the designer of the 14" Throwzini Thrower shown here: http://www.throwzini.com/throwzini-throwers.html AOL USERS LINK The knives he makes are truly among the best, and they should be, considering he was trained by the master, Harry McEvoy! I literally could not have hoped for a more perfect host than Joe & his family were to me that whole week. I had the most awesome time, and I can't even tell you how happy I am that I can truly call Joe my friend.
