1. An improvised target I built while on vacation. The crib on which the target rests is assembled out of firewood, stacked up to lean slightly backward against a large Ponderosa. The target itself is a big, well-aged tree disk -- so well-aged that the surface was actually spongy in places. This arrangement is more stable than it looks once the heavy tree disk is in place. (No, I couldn't do it single-handed; I needed the help of a certain strong, athletic girl; thanks much, Robin!) The weight of the disk increases friction between the pieces of firewood and thus stiffens the cribwork, preventing it from toppling or settling. You say I look smug? Good; I _am_smug. 2. Another view of my improvised tree disk target. That S.O.B. weighs over 200 pounds! (The target's pretty heavy too.)
