1. What's New

Hello Throwers!

ALL NEW MAXIMUM RISK SHOW TAKING PLACE IN NEW YORK CITY
David Adamovich, in collaboration with the SoHo Playhouse, is proud to announce that 'MAXIMUM RISK - World Champions on the Edge!' (sm) will open June 6, 2005 at the SoHo Playhouse, in New York City.

This Off-Broadway variety show will be like no other in the history of NY Theatre featuring exciting exhibitions of skill, daring, drama, difficulty and danger! Each and every week, during an already extraordinary performance, one or more members of our troupe will attempt to either break or create a world record.

The opening show will feature The Great Throwdini throwing in excess of 120 knives around his lovely assistant, Ekaterina, in less than 60 seconds! Future shows will have additional knife throwing records (amongst them The Double Ladder of Death at 3 knives per second as well as other speed throwing records), fire eating, strait jacket and hand cuff escapes, for example, by Ravi and Matt The Knife.

To learn more about Mr. Adamovich and to learn about another one of his knife throwing projects that is sure make you a better thrower, just visit the following page:

UPCOMING EVENT

ATLANTA BLADE SHOW 'TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS'
"The 6th annual, "Blade Show/WKTG Invitational Championship" (aka Tournament of Champions) is coming. The Blade Show dates are June 3rd - 5th. (The throwing event is Sunday the 5th) This event is by invitation only, to persons I have contacted who have taken 1st place positions at OTHER events, or are defending last years title."

"The contest is like no other, as the format is planned to bring out the best in the participants. The targets are sometimes playing cards, or bulls eyes, and not always in the center of the round. For that matter, the target may not even be a round log slice. I'll give you all a hint [in part] of what to expect this year; think 4x4x8, and some speed is needed. You'll also need 5 knives. (No hawks this year.)"

"We have never been disappointed in the competitions of the past. These throwers have already proven themselves in other venues and now come to see who can adapt to the game at hand."

"Last March Eryk Smith came down to Florida and he and I made our plans for the type of targets and scoring for this year. We are sure that the competitors will find that it will be fun, and hard enough to make them work for it. The key is to make the contest challenging and entertaining for the spectators."

"If any of you can be in, or around Atlanta, GA the first week of June, do yourself a favor and go to the Blade Show. There is so much to see. Every type of knife can be seen or bought, and there are also seminars and other demonstrations taking place all weekend.

Hope to see you all there!"

Thats it for this time around! Hope you're all feeling fine, and throwing even finer-er! :-)

NOT THROWING IS NOT AN OPTION!
By Mike Gross

Hi Scott,

Wanted to share this one with you in case anyone ever asks about elbow problems, or tendonitis. When I asked you about it, I was surprised to find that you haven't heard from any throwers with this problem. For me it got to the point that I had to change my throwing style a bit.

It seems to me that if throwing has any effect on the elbow, it is at the following positions:

In the hyper extended position of the arm at the furthest point of follow through, which seems to effect the lateral part of the elbow where the tendons connect.

And when bringing the arm completely back behind the head at the very point backward motion turns to forward motion. At this point it seems the opposite side ie; the medial part of the elbow tendon is effected.

What works for me to counter these negative effects on the tendons surrounding the elbow is to leave as much as I can, a 45 degree angle on my arm throughout the motion. Although I understand this isn't an ideal approach to teach because it really hinders (unnaturally) the motion, especially follow through which is key.

With perseverance however, it can be done. This has slowed down the rotation for me a bit and I've had to move back from my targets, but with some work I've made up for velocity loss by using my legs and shoulders more in the motion. This takes away 'stresses' that would be placed more on the elbow, which would increase the problem.

I always stretch my arm, and shoulders prior to throwing, and ice for 20 minutes after throwing. Much like a pitcher ices his shoulder after a game. I believe the lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) doesn't have much to do with throwing knives, however the hyperextension part of it will agitate it. Being a former baseball player, I believe the damage to my elbow was done long before knife throwing.

In conclusion, I'm gonna throw one way or the other! Whatever it takes. Not throwing is not an option... I'm hooked!

Sorry to be so lengthy but just wanted to share in case anyone gets an injury they think might keep them from throwing.

P.S. I just watched the David Adamovich video. He's super! And I even heard your name mentioned a few times!!!!

Thanks!
