From Pat Minter First lets start off by telling you a bit about Pat "The Machine" Minter... Pat started throwing in 1991 as a hobby and entered his first competition in 1996. Since that time he has exploded into the knife throwing competition scene with an amazing 18 first place finishes from 1996 to 2003. Nicknamed "The Machine" for his methodical knife throw, producing perfect scores numerous times! While at the IKTA event in 2001 I watched Pat throw 5 knives into a single 2.5" triangle from 18 feet away! (Thats 2 spins)!!! It looked like someone grabbed a stack of knives and stuck them all in the bull at once. They were stacked neatly, one right after the other! Pat is a very dedicated thrower, and it even shows in the target range he has built on his property down south... check out the pictures below to see what I mean :-)
Above is a "car port" that you can throw under just incase its raining.
The target setup on the left is for the US Central Knife Throwing Championships held in Austin, TX. For this event you must throw 5 knives, each at a separate target, in a certain order. You throw your first knife at the top left target, then the bottom left, then the middle, then bottom right, and your last knife goes into the top right log round. (A sort of "W" shape). The target setup to the right is for "mountain man events". Many times at the mountain man events they throw at playing cards instead of bullseyes. There is also a 4"X4" post in front of the target for a extra little fun!
And the targets on the right here are another game that some mountain men like to play. Its just a take off of the old "tic-tac-toe" game. The tripod design is also a great idea for a portable target stand. Thanks much to Pat for sharing this awesome range with us!
