I prefer to throw these by the blade, but many of my friends like to throw them by the handle. You can throw them either way but they just glide right out of your hand when thrown by the blade. I throw a 1/2 spin from about 10 feet and 1 1/2 spins from 22 feet. If I choke up really high on the blade - towards the handle - I can slow the spin down enough to make a half spin from about 15'.
